He’s at peace with life, until life suddenly and unexpectedly declares war on him. In the split second it takes for his wife to die, he is transported from a world of normality to a maelstrom of murder, suspicion, betrayal, terrorism, kidnap and nuclear threat.
I found writing Bank on Nothing quite challenging and when I finished it in 2017, I was pleased to metaphorically put it on the shelf and forget about it. I continued writing and finished a second novel in a completely different genre at the end of 2019, which I thought might be good enough to attract either a publisher or agent. I fired off a huge number of queries but, despite a number of encouraging responses, no-one wanted to take it.
The first UK Covid lockdown had started and I had time on my hands. I dusted down Bank on Nothing and sent it off to half a dozen publishers. You could have knocked me down with a feather when two of them came back quite quickly and suggested they were interested in publishing it. By August I was a published author!
I’m currently working on a second book for the same publisher and expect to see it published sometime next year. I still have to pinch myself to make sure I’m not dreaming the whole thing.”
